High above the shoppers and retail buzz of Westpoint Shopping Centre in Blacktown, a vibrant and unique playspace has emerged, courtesy of Moduplay. Commissioned to create a playground experience that would become the heart of the shopping centre’s new rooftop family precinct, Moduplay delivered a playground design to seamlessly blend play, community, and modern design to enhance the space.
Westpoint’s vision was clear: transform an underutilised rooftop space into a dynamic family precinct through a series of upgrades. While the centre focused on creating an inviting precinct with dining and entertainment options, they entrusted Moduplay with the crucial task of designing and installing a playground that would capture imaginations, and complete the space.
Moduplay responded with a design that is as innovative as it is engaging. Structured beneath a giant mushroom shaped shade structure, Moduplay created a bespoke space which incorporates much of the structure into the playground design. Through this custom unit, children can test their climbing skills on the challenging rope bridges and nets, designed to encourage physical activity and build confidence. A thrilling tube slide, and multi levelled platforms offer exhilarating experiences for all ages.
The vibrant orange and purple colour scheme, chosen to complement Westpoint’s modern aesthetic, adds a modern, vibrant energy to the space. Beyond the visual appeal, Moduplay’s design prioritises accessibility and inclusivity. Toddlers can explore the lower platforms and interactive elements while older children conquer the more challenging climbing structures. Quiet corners for imaginative play and open spaces for running and socialising ensure that there is something for everyone.
This intergenerational approach is central to Moduplay’s philosophy. By creating a space where families can play together, they’ve helped Westpoint transform their rooftop into a true community hub. Parents can relax and socialise while their children explore the many play activities in front of them, fostering a sense of togetherness that redefines the shopping experience.
