Grand Opening of the CSIRO Parkes Observatory Playground!

We’re thrilled to announce the unveiling of the CSIRO Parkes Observatory Playground, made possible by a generous $500,000 investment from the NSW Government. This playground transformation represents a significant leap forward in inclusivity, featuring wheelchair-accessible paths, sensory mazes inspired by space exploration, and soft fall ground cover adorned with captivating outer space patterns.

Minister for Regional NSW, Tara Moriarty, expressed her excitement about the accessibility upgrades, stating, “This is now a great accessible space to host young space fans, further cementing itself as a world-class tourism destination for budding astronomers who visit the region.”

Mayor of Parkes Shire, Cr Neil Westcott, echoed these sentiments, emphasising the importance of accessibility and innovation in enhancing the visitor experience. “Increasing the accessibility to all indoor and outdoor visitor areas at the facility, and by making the Visitor Centre more mobility-friendly, inclusive, and family-friendly, will improve the visitor experience,” he remarked.
