Partially funded as part of the Everyone Can Play program there’s something for everybody to enjoy. The renovated play area caters to the ECP mantra of “Can I get there, can I play, can I stay?”
This simple but revolutionary approach to playground space design recognises the necessary features of a public play space that may be overlooked if only the play value is focused on.
- “Can I get there?” – being able to access the playground easily by foot, public transport, bicycle or car… and being able to park if coming by car.
- “Can I play?” – is there a sufficient range of play activities to cater for children and families of all ages and abilities?
- “Can I stay?” – is there enough amenity within accessible distance of the play space so children, parents, grandparents and carers can stay for an extended visit?
All of these aspects have been considered and catered for the in the refurbishment of Poppy Park, providing a high value community asset that will serve well the local neighbourhood and wider for many years to come.
Affectionately known as “Poppy Park” it is named after the red poppy that is the commemorative flower of remembrance and is a reminder of those who lost their lives or suffered in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
The new playground is located within the Forestville War Memorial Playing Fields Precinct which has undergone major renovations as part of the same project. The precinct has new sports courts, a new skate park, 2 dog parks and an outdoor fitness area.
